Marvin Eugene Ates Sr., 75, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, July 12, 2014, at Fountainbleau Lodge.
He was born Jan. 6, 1939, in Jackson, to Bob and Reva Seabaugh Ates. He and Shirley Spalding Estes were married July 30, 1988, in Cape Girardeau. She passed away July 21, 2012.
Marvin was a graduate of Jackson High School. He worked at Southeast Hospital more than 30 years, retiring in 2012. He was a member of American Legion Post 158 in Jackson.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include two sons, Marvin E. Ates Jr. and Tim E. Ates of St. Louis; a daughter, Bonnie Jean Ates of Tybee Island, Georgia; three grandchildren, Alec Ates, Gavin Bailey and Josie Ates Baker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and two sisters, Peggy Welker and Joann Steven.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Darrell E. Faire officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with full military honors by Missouri Honors Team.
