Martin VanderMierden

MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Martin Henry VanderMierden, 86, of Marble Hill died Monday, April 23, 2012, at his home.

He was born March 14, 1926, in Glennon, Mo., son of Henry Francis and Sophia Masea Laurentius VanderMierden. He married Marietta Catherine "Mattie" Bucher on Aug. 26, 1950. She died June 3, 2009.

VanderMierden was a carpenter with Elmer Fisher Construction until retiring. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church at Glennon.

He served with the U.S. Army in the Philippines and Japan during World War II.

Survivors include his children, Evelyn (Lloyd Jr.) Davenport of Checotah, Okla., Alma Bowers (Tom Jansen), Bob (Cindy) VanderMierden, Henry (Julie) VanderMierden, and Judy (David) Ford, all of Marble Hill, Mary Lou (Kenny) Talley of Zalma, Mo., Bill (Peggy) VanderMierden of Fayetteville, Ark., Alice (Rex) Crites of Burfordville, Elmer (Renee) VanderMierden of Advance, Mo., Betty (Clyde) Little of Millersville and Leo (Mary) VanderMierden of Leopold, Mo.; a sister, Agnes Trankler of Randles; 36 grandchildren; and 42 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Leon VanderMierden; three sons-in-law, Jimmy Brown, Lester Crader and Paul Bowers; and seven sisters.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hutchings Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Church, with the Rev. William Hennecke as celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors.
