Martin L. Roth, 93, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, July 27, at St. Francis Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 16, 1907, in Cape Girardeau, son of the late Martin and Magdaline Walter Roth. On July 30, 1942, he married the former Charolette Popp, and she passed away Feb. 18, 1998.
Mr. Roth graduated from Southeast Missouri State University and taught school at Central High School for 12 years. He then entered the Army and served in the North Africa and Italian Campaigns. He served as a captain major and retired after 32 years of service to his country.
He worked for the Chrysler Corp. in Helena, Ark., and Dayton, Ohio, for 20 years and was a self-employed contractor in Dayton for 20 years, retiring in 1973. He returned to Cape Girardeau to reside.
Surviving is a brother, Walter Roth of Cape; a nephew, Marty Roth and his wife, Betty; three great-nephews, Christopher Roth and Brian and Kevin Pingel, all of Cape Girardeau; and three special caregivers, JoAnn Baugher, Jane Ingram and Rosemary Masterson, all of Cape.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape, with funeral services at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Douglas Breite. Burial will be in the Lorimier Cemetery, arrangements by McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Southeast Hospice.
