KOKOMO, Ind. -- Martha June Lauck Wetekamp, 79, of Kokomo passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017, at home with her family.
Martha was born April 27, 1938, to Marcus Lauck and Effie Cohoon Lauck in Chaffee, Missouri.
Marty thoroughly enjoyed painting, reading and music. She was a talented artist who continued painting, sewing and other creative pursuits throughout her life. She graduated from high school in Caruthersville, Missouri, and attended Southeast Missouri State University, where she was active in a sorority and various other clubs and activities.
On Aug. 20, 1960, Marty married her lifelong love, Ted Wetekamp, and upon their graduation from college, they moved to Hobart, Indiana. Ted and Marty spent the next 40 years living across the Midwest, during which Marty taught school for a period and was active in various volunteer organizations while raising their four children.
Having settled in Kokomo, Marty was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and enjoyed sharing in the lives of her 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Ted Wetekamp; sons, Ted Wetekamp, Mark (Dawn) Wetekamp, Rob (Joyce) Wetekamp and Jim (Amanda) Wetekamp; brother, Vince (Jean) Lauck; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one niece and nephew; and a number of other relatives and close friends.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Mary Elizabeth.
A funeral Mass for Martha will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Indiana, with the Rev. Christopher Roberts officiating. The family will offer visitation prior to the Mass from 10 to 11 a.m. A Rite of Christian Burial will take place Saturday, with Deacon Rob Huff officiating at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you make a contribution to the March of Dimes in her honor.
