KELSO, Mo. -- Martha Agnes Weissmueller passed away at the beautiful young age of 88 on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018.
She was born at Oran, Missouri, to Ben and Christine Beel Elfrink on Nov. 24, 1929. She married John Henry Weissmueller on Jan. 17, 1948, and they began their family life together.
After she married, Martha enjoyed her time as a stay-at-home mother raising her children, gardening and canning. After her children were old enough, she went to work at Ely Walker in Scott City and then at Thorngate in Cape Girardeau.
She loved putting together piecework and embroidering quilts, then passing the quilts down to her children and grandchildren. She made a mean apple pie and the best fried bread anyone ever ate.
She was a member and a Eucharist minister at St. Augustine Church in Kelso.
She is survived by her six children, Bill (Doris) Weissmueller of Gordonville, Terry (Nancy) Weissmueller, Ella Weissmueller and Germaine (Tim) Cannon of Chaffee, Missouri, Judith (Don Eaton) Weissmueller and Carol (Karl) Grubbe of Santa Fe, New Mexico; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and her beloved cat, Snowflake.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three sisters and three brothers.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m.
