NAVARRE, Fla. -- Martha Sue Chanley, aged 75 years and 20 days, a resident of Navarre and formerly of East Prairie, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015, at her daughter's home.
Born Nov. 18, 1940, in the James Bayou community near East Prairie to the late Wyly Cliffton and Barbara Staggs Reed, Sue lived in East Prairie most of her life, where she was a retired registered nurse for the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. On Aug. 16, 1956, at Corinth, Mississippi, she married John Ervin Chanley, who preceded her in death Nov. 5, 2006.
She is survived by a son, John Wyly Chanley of Cape Girardeau; three daughters, Deborah Bailey of East Prairie, Carol Ann Chanley of Gulf Breeze, Florida, and Judy Kaye Chanley of Navarre; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a host of relatives and many friends.
Besides her husband and parents, a brother, James Nolen Reed Sr., also preceded Sue in death.
Visitation was Friday at the Full Gospel Church in East Prairie, where funeral services were conducted Saturday, with Brother George White officiating. Burial followed in East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery with Ponder Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Nathan Chanley, Jay Bailey, Chad Lowry, Larry Patrick, Richard Patrick and Bob Patrick.
