PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Martha Jean Kassel, 75, of Perryville died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, of which she had been a resident since July 2001.
She was born March 11, 1931, at Uniontown, Mo., daughter of Ernst Christian Kassel and Emma Whillamina Bertina Tuschhoff.
Martha Jean was baptized April 8, 1931. Her sponsors were Monroe Tuschhoff, Mathilda Neislein and Clara Lorenz, by the Rev. R.J.I. Mueller of Uniontown. She was confirmed April 2, 1944, at Grace Lutheran Church in Uniontown by the Rev. Mueller. Her confirmation verse was "Be thou faithful unto death and I will give thee a crown of life," Revelation 2:10. She has been a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Perryville many years.
She had a sister, Sylvia Weinhold of Frohna, Mo., who died July 29, 2006, at the Lutheran Home.
She is survived by 12 nieces and nephews, Clarence Weinhold and Pauline Bothmann of Perryville, Marvin Weinhold, Janice Weinhold, Danny Weinhold and Richard Weinhold of Frohna, Darline Weinhold of San Jose, Calif., Marion Jarvinen of Manistee, Mich., Lela Butery of St. James, Mo., the Rev. Terry Weinhold of St. Joseph, Mo., Gladys Barclay of LaGrange Ky., William Weinhold of Oak Ridge.
Her cousins from the Tuschhoff family are Gilbert Villhard and Wilbert Neislein of Perryville, Dorothy Zickler of St. Louis, Nora Nelda Seabaugh of Cape Girardeau, Wesley Bock and Lela Hahn of Advance, Mo., and Vera Birk of Jackson. Waldo Neislein of Chester, Ill., is deceased. Cousins from the Kassel family are Ruth Verseman of Perryville, Verna Mahnken and Louise Mahnken of Farrar, Mo., and Vivian Schimke of Frohna.
Martha Jean graduated from the Trickey Grade School of Frohna, and graduated from high school through the American School of Chicago. She was employed at Prince Gardner billfold factory many years, and was a cook at American Care Nursing Home in Perryville many years.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville, with the Rev. Matthew Marks officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
