CAIRO, Ill. -- Martha Ellen Delaney, 71, of Cairo, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1993, at Daystar Care Center. She was born March 25, 1922, in Cairo, daughter of Luther and Thelbert Jones Shemwell. CAIRO, Ill. -- Martha Ellen Delaney, 71, of Cairo, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1993, at Daystar Care Center.

She was born March 25, 1922, in Cairo, daughter of Luther and Thelbert Jones Shemwell. She married Harley "Red" Delaney, who died in 1985.

Delaney was a retired teller at First Bank and Trust Co. here, and member of Cairo Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Coffman of Barnhart, Jeanie Stokes of Tamms; a sister, Jenny Shemwell of Cairo; a brother, Darrell Shemwell of Cairo, and two grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Barkett Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Larry Potts will officiate, with burial in Beechwood Cemetery at Mounds.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.
