COLUMBIA -- Martha Cushman, 89, a former resident of Cape Girardeau, died Nov. 15, 1994, at Columbia Regional Hospital. She was a resident of Columbia.
She was born Oct. 23, 1905, to Edward A. and Susannah Shelton Phillips. She married Thomas H. Cushman on May 28, 1929. Mr. Cushman, a former guidance counselor at Cape Central High School, preceded her in death.
She graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a bachelor's degree in education, and taught for many years at Delta School.
Both she and her husband were longtime members of the First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau.
She is survived by two sons. Thomas H. Cushman Jr. of San Diego, and James E. Cushman of Nashville, Tenn.; a daughter, Joyce Cushman Stark of New York City; a brother, Willis Phillips of Vandalia; a sister, Evelyn Lotton of Garden City, Kansas; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Private graveside services were held Nov. 18.
