MARTHA A. SMITH

CAIRO, Ill. -- Martha A. Smith, 68, of Cairo died Friday, June 2, 1995, at Daystar Care Center in Cairo.

She was born in Cairo Jan. 10, 1927, the daughter of Arthur and Mena Deimund Kessler.

She was the city clerk for Cairo for many years before her retirement.

She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cairo, the Lutheranns of the church, the Cairo Business and Professional Women's Club and Beta Sigma Phi.

She is survived by her husband, Bob V. Smith of Cairo; three daughters, Yolanda Smith of Louisville, Ky., Jan Heuring of Gordonville and Karen Smith Howell of Naperville, Ill.; a sister, Sharon Fulcher of Villa Ridge, Ill.; four grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo after 5 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, with the Rev. William Voss officiating. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens at Villa Ridge.
