AUSTIN, Texas -- Marshall Wayne Long, also known as Behr Lee Appleby, 60, of Kyle, Texas, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2009, in Austin.

He was born Aug. 11, 1948, in Cape Girardeau, son of John Benton and and Ruth Mae Crumbaugh Long.

He attended Chaffee High School in Chaffee, Mo., and Murray State University in Murray, Ky.

For many years, Appleby, a longtime musician, travelled the midwestern U.S. playing his own style of bluegrass, folk and jazz music. He was also engaged in property management and automobile sales.

Survivors include his wife, Nola Kay Appleby of Kyle; two sons, Michael Wayne (Laura) Long of Moncks Corner, S.C., Zachariah Benjamin Cuellar of Milwaukee,; his mother, Ruth Mae Long, and brother, James E. Long, both of Chaffee; and a niece, Rebecca Lee (Sean) Watkins of Houston. Also surviving are a stepson, Bret (Jane) Appleby, Lisa (Eric) Maag, Lori Kittlesen, all of Kyle; and 30 grandchildren.

Harrell Funeral Home in Kyle was in charge of arrangements. A private service was held for family and close friends May 18.
