CAIRO, Ill. -- Funeral for Marlene G. Shelton of Cairo will be held at 11 a.m. today at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo. The Rev. F.M. Speakman will officiate. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge, Ill.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until service time.

Shelton, 66, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, at Daystar Care Center.

She was born May 9, 1934, in Melrose Park, Ill., daughter of Glade and Lillian Vandeveer.

Shelton retired as a teacher's aide at Bennett School in Cairo. She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Lori Klein of Jonesboro, Ill., Judy Martin of Wickliffe, Ky.; two sisters, Lucille Brammer of Hopkinsville, Ky., Gladys Davis of Lakeland, Fla.; a brother, Gene Vandeveer of Lakeland; and several grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, three brothers, and a sister.
