PERKINS -- Mark Newton, 70, Perkins Route 1, died Monday, Oct. 24, 1994, at Cape Girardeau Nursing Center.
He was born June 15, 1924, in Johnson County, Ark., son of Ott and Bertha Johnson Newton. He and Cleo Stovall were married Oct. 3, 1949.
Newton had been an elevator operator, retiring Nov. 1, 1979. He was a member of Perkins Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Marka Gribble of Dyersburg, Tenn.; three brothers, Earl Newton of Arkadelphia, Ark., J.L. Newton of Portland, Ore., Arch Newton of Sikeston; four sisters, Florence Christie of Sikeston, Ila Elliott and Christine Taylor of St. Louis, Jean Kaiser of Cape Girardeau; a half sister, Jewell Lovelady of Dover, Ark.; three grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two sons and a half brother.
Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Chaffee after 4 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Perkins Baptist Church, with the Revs. Ray Meek and Robert Francis officiating. Burial will be in Williams Cemetery at Perkins.
