ORAN, Mo. -- Marion Edward Roberts, 75, of Oran died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, at Westwood Hills Nursing Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

He was born July 2, 1935, in Vanduser, to James Henry and Mary Ellen Riston Roberts.

Ed graduated from Oran High School.

He served in the U.S. Army in Germany in the late 1950s. Ed went to Germany with Elvis Presley.

He was a forklift operator for Wetterau Corp. in Hazelwood, Mo., and moved back to the Oran area after his retirement. He was a member of Teamsters union Local 688 in St. Louis. Ed loved gardening and fishing.

He is survived by a daughter, Rise' Micki (Tony) Speer of Poplar Bluff; two grandchildren, Brian Edward and Ashley Roberts of St. Peters, Mo.; a great-grandson, Brenden Edward Roberts of St. Peters; a stepgranddaughter, Elizabeth Speer of Poplar Bluff; a stepson, Greg Stanley of St. Louis; a brother, Paul Douglas Roberts of Oran; three sisters, Dorothy Tubbs of St. Louis, Alma (Troy) Hopper of Redondo Beach, Calif., Dawn (Jeryl) Slinkard of Oran; an aunt, Gladys Brown of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Rodney and Johnna Lee Roberts; two sisters, Alberta Johnson and Henretta Roberts.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to service time Saturday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the chapel, with the Rev. Luther Abbott officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
