WOLF LAKE, Ill. -- Marion C. Markert, 86, of Wolf Lake died Monday, July 9, 2007, at Fountainbleau Lodge in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Sept. 2, 1920, at Ware, Ill., son of Albert Eugene and Fannie E. Sides Markert. He and Jean Knight were married May 29, 1954, in Tunica, Miss. She died Nov. 19, 2006.
Markert was retired from Ensign-Bickford Corp. He attended Wolf Lake United Methodist Church, and was a member of Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455 in Anna and Jonesboro Masonic Lodge 111 AF&AM.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include two daughters, Annette Vanover of Ware, Toni Ernst of St. Louis; two sisters, Lena Schaefer of Anna, Maude Matlock of Destin, Fla.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna. A Masonic service will be held at 7:30.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Stephanie Shemwell officiating. Burial will be in Walker Hill Cemetery at Grand Tower, Ill., with military honors by VFW Post 3455.
