EAST PRAIRIE -- Marion Chester Phillips, 70, of St. James, died Saturday, May 11, 1991, at his home. He was formerly of East Prairie.
He was born Dec. 17, 1920, at Bertrand, son of Thomas Miles and Bernettie Johnson Phillips. He married Leona Jenkins May 14, 1943, in St. Louis.
Phillips was a retired farmer. He was a member of United Church of Christ in High Hill, Masonic Lodge 457 AF&AM, Lions Club and Eastern Star 353 of Jonesburg. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Marion Phillips of Jonesburg, Kevin Phillips of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, Kenneth Phillips of Salem; a daughter, Nancy Hovelson of Canyon Lake, Texas; three brothers, Jack and James Phillips of East Prairie, Joseph Phillips of Sonora, Calif.; six sisters, Christine Hackett of Flint, Mich., Winnie Stahl and Martha Friedewald of St. Louis, Mary Douglas, Naomi Humphrey and Shirley Wagner of East Prairie; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Shelby Funeral Chapel, with Thomas F. Reimer officiating. Burial will be in Dogwood Cem7tery near here.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. Wednesday. A Masonic service will be held at 7.
