Marilyn P. "Peggy" Laird, 87, of Valparaiso, Ind., formerly of Dolton, Ill., and Southeast Missouri, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014, at the VNA Hospice Center.

She was born April 6, 1926, in Mound City, Ill., to Lester and Florence Poe, and graduated from Charleston High School in Missouri.

Peggy was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed genealogy and taught the Purdue Calumet beginners class on genealogy.

Peggy married Jack Laird on Oct. 14, 1946, and enjoyed 67 years of marriage before her passing.

Jack survives along with son Terry Poe (Barbara) Laird of Valparaiso; sisters, Vivian Jackson of Cape Girardeau and Evelyn Delbridge of Idaho; grandchildren, Bill Laird and Steve Laird, both of Valparaiso, and Rebecca (Chris) Lankheet of Chicago; two great-grandchildren, Tyler Laird and Aiden Lankheet; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Baby Boy Laird; and one sister.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at Moeller Funeral Home in Valparaiso.

The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Denny Smith officiating. Cremation will follow.

Memorial donations may be made to the Daughters of the American Revolution or VNA Hospice of Porter County.
