Marilyn Elaine Long Lewis, 81, of Jackson died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
She was born April 18, 1931, in Marble Hill, Mo., the daughter of Beecher and Hester Barks Long. She married Wayne Lewis in Desloge, Mo., on Aug. 16, 1953. He preceded her in death Dec. 8, 1996.
Marilyn graduated from Desloge High School and Flat River Junior College. She attended Southeast Missouri State Teachers College and Webster College. Marilyn taught at Turley School in St. Francois County, Mo., Athena in Jefferson County, Mo., and St. Francis Borgia Elementary in Washington, Mo. Marilyn was also a real estate broker/office manager at Carter Gold Key in Union, Mo.
She was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church and Esther Circle in Jackson. Marilyn was a volunteer and member of the Southeast Hospital Auxiliary and president of the Ostomy Support Group.
She is survived by daughters Pamela Lewis of Dexter, Mo., Susan Lewis and Mary Ann Lewis of Jackson; sister-in-law Wanda Long of Desloge; and a brother-in-law, Russell Hulsey of Bland, Mo.; her extended family, Wally and Marsha Tierney of Sullivan, Mo., and Mick and Carrie Maune of Washington, Mo; four grandchildren, Katie Tierney of Fenton, Mo., Conor Tierney of Sullivan, Collin Maune and Carlee Maune of Washington; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her dog, Millie B.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Weldon Long; her sister, Wanda Long Vaughn; and her brother, Wayne Long.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to time of service Thursday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
A celebration of her life will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jimmie Corbin officiating. Interment will follow at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jackson Food Pantry or Southeast Hospital Foundation.
