SIKESTON -- Funeral service for Marie F. Mathis of Sikeston will be held at 10 a.m. today at Ponder Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Jim Guffie will officiate, with burial in Sikeston City Cemetery.
Mathis, 93, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1993, at Sells Rest Home in Matthews.
She was born Dec. 25, 1899, in Louisiana, Mo., daughter of Fred and Lola Humphrey Briggs. She married Thomas N. Mathis Sr. Feb. 28, 1920. He died in 1960.
Mathis was a member of First Baptist Church and taught Sunday School more than 30 years.
Survivors include a son, Thomas Mathis II of Atlanta, Ga.; a brother, Cleveland Briggs of Fayetteville; eight grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, two daughters and a brother.
