Maria Thompson

ANNA, Ill. -- Maria Nell "Rita" Thompson, 58, of Anna, formerly of Cairo, Ill., died Saturday, April 4, 2009, at Mulberry Manor in Anna.

She was born Oct. 28, 1950, in Fort Hood, Texas, daughter of Carl William and Lucille Gregory Thompson.

Thompson was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cairo, the Daughters of Isabella, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by two sisters, Carla Lenard and Dennie Doughty, both of Sacramento, Calif.; and a brother, Ronald Thompson of Thailand.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a maternal grandmother.

There is no visitation.

Private memorial services will be held by the family at a later date.

Barkett Funeral Home of Cairo is in charge of arrangements.
