DEXTER, Mo. -- Marguerite R. Burke, 84, of Dexter passed away Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Dexter.
She was born April 23, 1929, in East Prairie, Mo., daughter of William B. and Elsie Tuttle Layton.
Mrs. Burke was affiliated with First Church of the Nazarene and Second General Baptist Church, both in Dexter. She was a salesclerk 30 years at Lois' Dress Shop, formerly Nina's Dress Shop, in Dexter. She and James C. Burke were married July 23, 1946, in Dexter. He preceded her in death Nov. 1, 1993.
She is survived by a son, James W. Burke of Jackson; a daughter, Sharon M. Trammell of Dexter; a brother, Jerry D. Layton of Dexter; a sister, Francis Russell of Crystal River, Fla.; and three grandsons, Travis L., Brian and Jared Burke.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred, Bill and Harold "Bud" Layton.
Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Roger Wooten and Kenneth Biggs officiating. Interment will be in Dexter Cemetery.
