Margaret E. "Margy" Griffaw, 85, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, April 20, 2001, at the Lutheran Home. She was born March 1, 1916, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of John and Rosa Ostendorf Herbst. She and Joseph L. "Roy" Griffaw were married May 22, 1937, in St. Louis. He died April 16, 1974...

Margaret E. "Margy" Griffaw, 85, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, April 20, 2001, at the Lutheran Home.

She was born March 1, 1916, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of John and Rosa Ostendorf Herbst. She and Joseph L. "Roy" Griffaw were married May 22, 1937, in St. Louis. He died April 16, 1974.

Margy attended Old St. Vincent's Grade School and graduated from St. Mary's High School. She and her sisters all played on city softball teams. When her children were young she was a troop leader with Girl Scouts and a den mother with Boy Scouts.

She retired in 1975 from Wimpy's, where she had been a cook. She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral. She was an avid sports fan, rarely missing a game on television.

"Mom, Gram, Mimmi, Margy" will be greatly missed by her family.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas S. and Susan Griffaw of Cape Girardeau; a daughter and son-in-law, Ricki Ann and Ted Ing of Cape Girardeau; a daughter-in-law, Joan Griffaw of Cape Girardeau; nine grandchildren, Ruth Ann, Roy David, Jim, Christi, Jeff, Amanda, Tracy, Kim and Heather; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, James L. "Jim" Griffaw June 13, 1995; a grandson, Thomas "Tommy" Griffaw July 27, 1993; her parents; three brothers; and three sisters.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 5-8 p.m. Sunday. Parish prayers will be at 7.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cathedral, with the Rev. Gefford Lamprea officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
