PATTON, Mo. -- Marell "Toots" Mayfield, 88, of Patton died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, at Jackson Manor in Jackson.

He was born June 28, 1919, in Glenallen, Mo., son of John Franklin and Ercy Eller Brown Mayfield. He and Algerene Marie Mayfield were married Nov. 22, 1946. She died June 6, 1996.

Mayfield was Bollinger County treasurer four years, was postmaster and rural mail carrier 23 years, worked in the timber business and farmed, was a bus driver 10 years with Meadow Heights School District, and was a foster parent 35 years.

He was a member of Little Whitewater Baptist Church, served as song director, sang in Little Whitewater Quartet and had been a Sunday school teacher.

Mayfield was a staff sergeant in the military during World War II. He received an American Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Ribbon and an American Theater Ribbon.

Survivors include two sons, Donnie and Richard Mayfield of Jackson; two daughters, Susie Smith of Patton, Karen Craft of New Wells; a brother, Don Mayfield of Florissant, Mo.; a sister, Nelda Wilkinson of Cape Girar-deau; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, a brother and a sister.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Liley Funeral Home in Patton.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Don Estes officiating. Burial will be in Pulliam Cemetery near Marble Hill, Mo.
