ORAN, Mo. -- Marcia L. Scherer, daughter of the late John Eugene and Ella Mae Burchyett Kaufman, was born June 7, 1944, in Cairo, Illinois, and departed this life Friday, September 25, 2020, at the age of 76 years at her home in Oran surrounded by her family.
On Aug. 10, 1968, she was united in marriage to James T. Scherer in Cape Girardeau. He survives of the home in Oran.
She was co-founder of Scherer Farms Processing in Oran, a former employee of Blair Industries and a member of Guardian Angel Catholic Church.
Besides her husband, survivors include sons, James "Bo" and Gilbert Wayne Scherer, both of Oran; daughter, Alisha (Chuck) Strop of Oran; brothers, Lloyd "Chigger" Kaufman of Olive Branch, Illinois, John Franklin Kaufman and Curtis "Snake" Jacobs, both of Thebes, Illinois, and Donnie Joe Kaufman of Cape Girardeau; sisters, Judy Kay Sander of Oran and Roberta Elain Stevens of Thebes; grandchildren, Sierra Greer, Brandon Strop, Kerra Finnie, Haley Holifield, Joey Scherer, Ashley Strop, Brook Strop, Caleb Finnie, Katie Scherer, Macy Scherer, Hayden Scherer, Dalton Scherer and Xander Scherer; and great-grandchildren, Addyson, Gracie, Bailee, Mark, Brendyn, Kingston, Aleah and Asher.
Besides her parents, Marcia was preceded in death by brothers, Thomas Daniel, William Eugene and Jack Lee Kaufman, and sisters, Mary Watson and Laverne "Poochie" Benifield.
A memorial visitation was held Tuesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran.
Memorial Mass was celebrated Wednesday Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Oran with the Rev. Joseph Kelly officiating. Interment followed at the Forest Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery near Morley, Missouri.
