SIKESTON -- Marcella R. Mayfield, 71, of Sikeston, died Thursday, March 23, 1995, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born Dec. 8, 1923, in Beardstown, Ill., daughter of Lorraine Edward and Mary Austin Shanks Rauth. She and Loomis Mayfield were married Aug. 15, 1946. He died Jan. 6, 1975...

SIKESTON -- Marcella R. Mayfield, 71, of Sikeston, died Thursday, March 23, 1995, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Dec. 8, 1923, in Beardstown, Ill., daughter of Lorraine Edward and Mary Austin Shanks Rauth. She and Loomis Mayfield were married Aug. 15, 1946. He died Jan. 6, 1975.

A retired registered nurse, Mayfield was a graduate of St. John's School of Nursing at Fontbonne College in St Louis. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, was serving on the Parish Council, was a member of Daughters of Isabella and Sodality, and a volunteer at St. Francis Xavier School.

Survivors include two sons, Loomis Mayfield III of Oak Park, Ill., Edward Mayfield of Sikeston; seven daughters, Beth Tidwell and Sandra Sharp of Sikeston, Mary Seyer of Cape Girardeau, Suzanne Shaw of Pine Bluff, Ark., Barbara Morris of Tunica, Miss., Christina Taylor of Montgomery, Ala., Gloria Holland of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Dorris McAllister of Richardson, Texas; 15 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Ponder Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, with the rosary to be recited at 7.

Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Church, with Msgr. William Stanton officiating. Burial will be in Sikeston City Cemetery.
