Mae Sue Sprengel, 88, of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, Aug. 26, 2023, at the Lutheran Home.
She was born July 27, 1935, in Oak Ridge to Emory and Oma Thompson Beal. She and Archie H. Sprengel were married May 15, 1954, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death June 2, 2021.
Mae Sue graduated from Oak Ridge High School. She worked for Jackson Cleaners before joining Southwestern Bell Telephone as an operator, retiring in 1987 after 31 years of service.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Trinity Ladies Aid.
Survivors include two sons, Archie Wayne (Ann) Sprengel and Mark (Christy) Sprengel, both of Cape Girardeau; sisters-in-law, Ruth Langston of Cape Girardeau and Wanda (Clarence) Perr of Brea, California; grandchildren, Michael Sprengel of Fort Collins, Colorado, Gregory (Kathryn) Sprengel of Argyle, Texas, Russell (Paige) Sprengel of Dallas, Megan (Andrew) Neely of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Lucas Sprengel of Norfolk, Virginia; great-grandchildren, Kimberly, Vance and Lottie Jo Sprengel of Argyle; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Helen (Dale) Baker, Ruth Ann (Clyde) Davis and Joella (Raymond) Arnzen.
A private graveside service will be held Thursday, Aug. 31, at Fairmount Cemetery in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Paul Short officiating.
Memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.
Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
