JACKSON, Mo. -- Mabel H. Smith, 91, of Jackson died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Aug. 17, 1911, at Burfordville, Mo., daughter of Sylvanis Odney and Iva Craig Hutson. She and Luther R. Smith were married Aug. 10, 1953. He died April 22, 1971.
Smith was a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia. She was a school teacher from 1932 until retiring from Jackson Schools in 1975.
She was a member of Burfordville Baptist Church, had been an adult women's Sunday School teacher, and chairman of Community Missions. She was also a member of Whitewater Chapter 174 Order of Eastern Star, Cane Creek Homemakers Club, Jackson and Cape Girardeau Area Retired Teachers Association, Missouri State Teachers Association, and Missouri Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include a daughter, Lawana Bell of Perryville, Mo.; two brothers, Pink and Robert Hutson of Jackson; three sisters, Inez Starzinger and Ruby Clifton of Jackson, Ella Cook of Burfordville; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, a brother, and two sisters.
Friends may call at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday. An Eastern Star service will be held at 7.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Morris Cobb officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
