SIKESTON, Mo. -- Mabel Louise Hunter, 87, of Sikeston died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at Missouri Delta Medical Center. She was born Dec. 8, 1914, at Benton, Mo., daughter of William J. and Ida May Wise Hunter. She and A. Jackson Hunter were married March 24, 1934. He preceded her in death Aug. 20, 1992...

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Mabel Louise Hunter, 87, of Sikeston died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

She was born Dec. 8, 1914, at Benton, Mo., daughter of William J. and Ida May Wise Hunter. She and A. Jackson Hunter were married March 24, 1934. He preceded her in death Aug. 20, 1992.

Mrs. Hunter had lived in Cape Girardeau and was a graduate of Central High School, where she was a member of National Honor Society and Drama Club. She attended Southeast Missouri State University, where she was a member of Clio Literary Society.

She was a member and past president of Chapter JU, PEO Sisterhood. She was a member and past regent of Kingshighway Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, serving as district director from 1972 to 1974.

Mrs. Hunter was also a member of Allegro Music Club in Sikeston, and was an active member of Hunter Memorial First Presbyterian Church and served as a contributing member of Circle Four.

Survivors include two sons, retired Marine Lt. Col. A.J. Hunter Jr. of Anchorage, Alaska, William Joseph Hunter of Sikeston; two daughters, Sally Hunter Williams of Ballwin, Mo., Judith Ann Hunter of St. Louis; a sister, Mary Hunter Kinder of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Friends may call at Hunter Memorial First Presbyterian Church from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday.

A memorial service will be held at the church at 6 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Rufus McLean officiating.

The family has requested that memorial contributions in her memory be made to Hunter Memorial First Presbyterian Church or Sikeston Public Library.

Nunnelee Funeral Chapel of Sikeston is in charge of arrangements.
