BERNIE, Mo. -- Mabel M. Johnson, 81, of Bernie died Friday, June 1, 2001, at the Beverly Health Rehabilitation Center at Dexter, Mo.
She was born July 25, 1919, in Parma, Mo., daughter of Jenkins Elliot and Gertie Belle Dallas Ross. She and Haywood Edwards were married Oct. 14, 1939, at Parma. He died Sept. 5, 2000. She and J.D. Johnson were married Nov. 21, 1961. He died March 9, 1999.
She was a cook for several restaurants and was the owner and operator of Mabel's Cafe in Bernie from 1965 until her retirement in 1976. She was a member of the Northside Baptist Church in Bernie.
Survivors include three daughters, Hester Robertson of Bernie, Sue Coram and Anna Faye McGowan, both of Malden, Mo.; a brother, Clinton E. Ross of Dowagiac, Mich.; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her parents, two great-grandsons, five brothers and three sisters.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at Rainey Funeral Home in Bernie.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. O.H. Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Rosewood Cemetery at Malden.
