Lynn Tillman Phelps, 88, of Jackson died Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Life Care Center of Cape Girardeau.

He was born June 29, 1926, in Oak Ridge to Jason Trentis and Matilda Elizabeth Green Phelps. He and Mildred H. Bess were married Dec. 20, 1946. She died Dec. 19, 2014.

Lynn graduated from Oak Ridge High School. He served in the United States Navy from June 1944 to 1946 serving in the South Pacific.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson. Lynn was a machinist by trade and worked at Wagner Machine Shop in Jackson five years, worked at the power plant for the city of Jackson 12 years, and while there he designed and helped construct the water fountain in front of the courthouse and the foot bridge over Hubble Creek next to the annex. He then worked at Atlas Plastics in Cape Girardeau 20 years, and at Erlbacher Gear and Machine Works in Cape Girardeau 4 1/2 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl (Ron) Whittenburg of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and Carole Cook of Jackson; a brother, Weldon Phelps of Kirkwood, Missouri; four granddaughters, Heather, Amanda, Danielle and Erika; eight great-grandchildren, Olivia, Ella, Beatrice, Charlie, John, Harlow, Everett and Riley.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; a brother, John; and a sister, Verda Lou Fronabarger.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time Friday at Ford and Sons Funeral Home-Jackson, formerly Cracraft-Miller.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Dr. Grant F.C. Gillard officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Jackson.
