EUGENE, Ore. -- Lyndell Bess, 89, passed away Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022, in Eugene.
He was born Aug. 10, 1932, to Virgil Milton and Lillie Belle Ratledge Bess in Delta.
He graduated from Advance (Missouri) High School in 1950, and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1951. After basic training at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, he was stationed in Karlsruhe, Germany.
On Sept. 15, 1953, he and Bonnie May Bagbey were married in Advance, and he was discharged from the Army in November 1954. They moved to St. Louis, where Lyndell began working as a lineman for Union Electric Company, retiring in 1992 with 38 years of service. They then moved to Gordonville and lived there until 2011, when they moved to Omaha, Nebraska, and then to Eugene in 2020 to be near family.
Lyndell is survived by his wife, Bonnie; son, Mark (Sue) Bess; grandchildren, Tim (Lysandra) Bess and Abigail Bess; and great-grandchildren, Alora and Jacob Bess. He is also survived by sisters, Louise Hinkle, Carolyn Graves and Doris Guzman; and brother, C.W. Bess.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jean Ezell; and brothers, Darrel and Richard Bess.
The funeral service was held Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Junction City, Oregon. Burial followed in the afternoon at Roseburg National Cemetery in Roseburg, Oregon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Junction City building fund, 28957 W. 18th St., Junction City, OR 97448.
