LONEDELL, Mo. -- Lyman L. Barks, 79, of Lonedell, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at Crabapple Village Senior Estates in St. Clair, Missouri.
He was born Aug. 16, 1935, in Piedmont, Missouri, son of Louis and Lula Crowell Barks. He and Jane Kenter Thoma were married April 24, 1992, in Chesterfield, Missouri.
Lyman graduated from Greenville High School in Greenville, Missouri, at the age of 14. After high school, he taught grades one through eight at Holmes Chapel Grade School, a one-room schoolhouse.
He served in the United States Army.
Lyman was a supervisor with the United States Postal Service, retiring in the early 1990s. While at the post office, he volunteered with the St. Louis County Police Department and Franklin County Sheriff's Department many years, and was a board member at Evangelical Children's Home in St. Louis.
He truly enjoyed working on his farm and restoring cars, trucks and tractors. He was crazy about his grandchildren and loved to go deer hunting with his grandsons.
Loving survivors include his wife of 23 years, Jane; three daughters, Roxanna (Ron) Patrick of Wentzville, Missouri, Pam Risch (Bill Mathieu) of St. Louis and Stacie Thoma of Lonedell; and five grandchildren, Summer, Sean and Christopher Patrick and Joshua and Jacob Risch.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Jerry Craft officiating. Interment will be in New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery at Pocahontas, with full military honors.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to any Parkinson's disease organization.
