SIKESTON, Mo. -- Lydia N. Guess, 93, of Sikeston died Friday, June 15, 2001, at Clearview Nursing Center in Sikeston. She was born Aug. 5, 1907, in Morehouse, Mo., the daughter of Alexander Thomas and Anna Laura Wright Holder. She married William B. Guess May 9, 1925, in Benton, Mo. He died Aug. 23, 1971...

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Lydia N. Guess, 93, of Sikeston died Friday, June 15, 2001, at Clearview Nursing Center in Sikeston.

She was born Aug. 5, 1907, in Morehouse, Mo., the daughter of Alexander Thomas and Anna Laura Wright Holder.

She married William B. Guess May 9, 1925, in Benton, Mo. He died Aug. 23, 1971.

She was a housewife and had been a member of the First Baptist Church since Oct. 10, 1929. She was a volunteer at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston for 17 years.

She was with the dietary department of the Sikeston public schools for many years and also cooked for the Girl Scouts at Camp Latonka.

She is survived by three sons, William "Bill" Guess of Sikeston, Harold "Bud" Guess of Des Moines, Iowa, and Jerry Guess of Amory Miss.; a daughter, Margaret Bean Burks of Fort Smith, Ark.; a sister, Opal White of Sikeston; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, three brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.

Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the chapel with the Rev. Jim Barnhart, associate pastor of Miner Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
