CHARLESTON -- Luther Sydney Cherry, 84, of Charleston died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at Bertrand Nursing Facility.
He was born Jan. 9, 1915, in Big Sandy, Texas, son of William Simon and Sarah Caroline Cherry. He and Juanita Padgett were married Sept. 28, 1940.
Cherry lived in the Charleston area most of his life. He was a construction engineer with Federal Corps of Engineers many years. He then was a self-employed road and bridge engineer. He was a member of Charleston Masonic Lodge 407 AF&AM.Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Barbara Tillman of Dixon, Francis Goodrum of Imperial; a sister, Sidona White of Ozark, Ark.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.
Friends may call at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston after 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Masonic service will be at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gerald Collier officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery.
