GORHAM, Ill. -- L. Lucille Scholz, 89, of Gorham, passed away Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro, Ill.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro. Burial will be in Goodbread Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and until the hour of service Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Sand Ridge Baptist Church in Sand Ridge, Ill.
Lucille was born Feb. 3, 1919, in Whitewater to William and Dona Cook Chapman. She and Leonard Scholz were married Jan. 7, 1937, in Jackson. He preceded her in death Oct. 28, 1992.
She loved being with her grandchildren and loved all the children of the neighborhood.
Mrs. Scholz was a member of Sand Ridge Baptist Church.
Survivors include seven children, LeRoy (Shellie) Scholz of Gorham, Edith Sachse of Oak Ridge, Ella Mae (Charles) Amelunke of Whitewater, Doris (Larry) Crites of Jackson, Willa (Terry) Homan, Wilma Meade, and Betty Crowden, all of Gorham; 23 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; seven great-stepgrandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a great-great-stepgranddaughter.
Also a brother, William Chapman of Whitewater, and three sisters, Gladys Phelps of Overland, Mo., Louise Woeltje of Oak Ridge and Opal Jest of Whitewater.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ray Dean Scholz; a grandson, Dean Shufflebarger; her parents; a brother; and two sisters.
