On Friday, Oct. 11, 2019, Lucille Modglin Halter departed this life at Chateau Girardeau Skilled Nursing Facility at the age of 95 years.
She was born Nov. 28, 1923, in Thebes, Illinois, to William Albert and Dora Emilia Baumunk Modglin. She and Albert Leo Halter were united in marriage July 14, 1948. He preceded her in death June 7, 2010.
Lucille was a member of the 1943 senior class of Diehlstadt Consolidated School in Diehlstadt, Missouri. She worked as a homemaker during her married life and cared for a multitude of children who lovingly called her "Mama Cille." She was a charter member of the Busy Bees Quilting Club and a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 3127.
She was a member of Chaffee First United Methodist Church, where she attended the Tuesday morning Chat-a-While group.
Survivors include her daughters, Linda (Frank) Welter of Chaffee, Missouri, Connie (Stan) Laurentius of Cape Girardeau, Dixie (Jerry) Burnett of Oak Ridge and Shelley (Tom) Burnett of Chaffee; sister, Dorothy Prior of Helmetta, New Jersey; brother, Herbert "Alvie" Modglin of Okeechobee, Florida; grandchildren, Douglas (Tammy) Welter, Linette (Tim) Brammeier, Jonathan (Melissa Roewe) Welter, Sally (Ben) Hancock, Carrie (Robby) Baldwin, Jennifer (Shawn) Owens, Bill (Kim) Burnett, Ben (Heidi) Burnett, Micki (Allan) Horrell, Tommy (Carrie) Burnett and Amy (Tommy) Stidham; 21 great-grandchildren (plus one expected in November 2019 and one expected in April 2020); and three great-stepgrandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sisters, Alice Campbell Rhoades, Lorraine Pollock, Thelma Goodall, Kathryn Howell and Gladys Woods; and brothers, Russell Modglin, George Modglin and William Modglin.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gwen Streeter officiating. Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery in Chaffee.
Lucille's family would like to thank Dr. Matthew Schumer and his staff, especially Michelle, for the exemplary medical care they gave Lucille and Albert throughout the years; the staff at Saint Francis Medical Center emergency department, neurosurgical floor and surgical floor; the staff at Chateau Girardeau Rehabilitation Center and Skilled Nursing for the compassion and caring shown to her; and Legacy Hospice staff for supporting her family and helping her transition with dignity. A special thank you to her roommate, Shirley, at Chateau Girardeau Skilled Nursing for providing privacy to her family during her final days.
