Lucille Burris, age 88, a resident of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Sikeston, Mo., died on Saturday, May 19, 2001 at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born on July 7, 1912, at Clarkton, Mo., to Will and Lula Essary Waltrip Dye. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and had worked as a teacher's aide at Lee Hunter Elementary School for several years. On Sept. 11, 1932, she was married to James E. Burris, and he preceded her in death on July 28, 1981.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Surman of Memphis, Tenn., and Charlotte Lanpher of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren, Bill P. "Buck" Surman of Memphis, Monica Walker of Nashville, Tenn., Nikki Shaffer of Cape Girardeau, Brandi Gunkel of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Allison Lanpher of Cape Girardeau; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, three sisters and a great-grandson, James Frederick Surman.
Visitation is from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. Services will be held in the Nunnelee Chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 21, with Rev. Rick Lasley, pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
