ST. LOUIS - Funeral services for Lt. Col. Paul B. Vaughn, 79, United States Air Force, retired, will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the George Renner and Sons Funeral Home in Belleville, Ill. The Rev. Jim Hunt and Hugh Fitz will officiate. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, in St. Louis County.
Friends may call at the Renner and Sons Funeral Home in Belleville after 4 p.m. today.
Vaughn died this week at the USAF Medical Center at Lackland AFB, Tex.
He was born to the late Robert N. and Verna I. Vaughn.
He married Sophia C. (Heider) Vaughn, who survives, along with eight children; Donald Vaughn of Cape Coral, Fla., Rosalee Schultz of Grandview, Kay Carroll of Cape Girardeau, Mary Luhman of Gaithersburg, Md., Sharon Vaughn of Belleville, Ill., Karen O'Carroll of Chandler, Ariz. Ronald Vaughn of Santa Monica, Calif., and Deborah Shank of Jackson.
Other survivors include five brothers, Robert A. Vaughn of Boulder, Colo., Billie Vaughn of Peoria, Ill., Carl Vaughn of Belleville, Ill., Jimmie Vaughn of St. Louis, Paul Killam of New Market, Iowa; five sisters, Helen Niederkorn of Scott City, Virginal Moore of Wayne, Mich., Marie Ollis of Crest Hill, Ill., Joan Reese of Peoria, Ill., and Ruth Eaton of Jackson. Seventeen grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren also survive.
Vaughn served in the Air Force for 24 years before retiring in 1960. After his military service, Vaughn entered the civil service, and worked 14 years before retiring a second time.
He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
Vaughn was a graduate of several military service schools, including the Command and Staff College and the U.S. Army Infantry School.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
