U.S. Navy retired Lt. Cmdr. Glenn Richard Farrar, 74, of Pensacola, Fla., passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at West Florida Hospital.
He was born Oct. 30, 1934, to Percy and Bertha Farrar of Cape Girardeau. He married Janet Adair in 1956. She passed away in 1989. He married Patricia Churchill in 1994.
Farrar attended St. Mary's Grade and High Schools in Cape Girardeau and the University of Missouri. He received a commission in the Navy as a naval aviator and spent much of his career as a pilot and flight instructor, rising to the rank of lieutenant commander.
After retirement he taught in the Escambia and Santa Rosa County Florida School Districts. He was a member of First City Church of Pensacola and Eagles, American Legion, Elks Lodge 2108 and Grotto and Rhythm Lovers Dance Clubs.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia; three sons, Jeff (Mary) and Greg (Cindy) of Pensacola, Scott (Melissa) of Nashville, Tenn. a stepson, Bucky; and stepdaughter, Julia.
He is also survived by two brothers, Paul and Gene (Barbara) Farrar; three sisters, Geraldine (Walter) Stone and Margie Farrar of Cape Girardeau, Dorothy (Bob) Hulsey of Raytown, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Monday at Oak Lawn Funeral Home in Pensacola. Burial was in Barrancas National Cemetery at Pensacola Naval Air Station with full military honors conducted.
