Loyd O. Crain, 75, of Cape Girardeau and formerly of Alto Pass, Ill., died at 1:15 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at Missouri Veterans Home.
He was born Sept. 12, 1925, in Carterville, Ill., son of Cecil L. and Ruth Roberts Crain. He married Violet G. Hodge May 15, 1943, in Puxico, Mo.
He is survived by his wife, Violet, of Cape Girardeau; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Larry Rhodes of Eagar, Ariz.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Barbara Crain of Cape Girardeau, Steve and Debbi Crain of Nixa, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Sam Rhodes, Sheryl Aquino, Adra Alexander, Chrissy Wilferth, Meredith Ogburn, Carissa Crain and Erin Crain; and five great-grandchildren.
Loyd was a pastor 40 years; taught in the Cobden, Ill., Elementary School District, and drove a bus for the district 20 years. He was a member of Freewill Baptist Church.
He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the South Pacific.
Friends may call at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden after 5 p.m. Saturday.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with Pastor Larry Rhodes officiating. Burial will be in Alto Pass Cemetery.
