PERRYVILLE -- Loyd R. Brinkman, 72, of Glendale died Tuesday, March 25, 1997.

He was born Feb. 22, 1925, in Cape Girardeau, son of Paul and Bessie Brinkman. He and Lula M. Graff were married in 1947.

Brinkman was a 1943 graduate of Perryville High School, where he lettered four years in football. He received a bachelor of science degree in education from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1949. He played football the four years of college and participated in the 1949 Gator Bowl. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 1949, but did not report.

He coached at Higginsville and Mexico, Mo., schools. In 1956 he became sales manager with Kaiser-Mexico Refractories, and retired in 1982.

Brinkman served two years in the U.S. Air Force, and received eight battle stars, Air Medal with three clusters, and the Presidential Citation.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Richard Brinkman Jr. of Glendale, Rex Brinkman of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter, Bebe Langston of Glendale; two brothers, Jack and Glen Brinkman of Cape Girardeau; and four grandchildren.

Friends may call at Bopp Funeral Chapel in Kirkwood from 3-8 p.m. Thursday.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel. Burial will be in Home Cemetery at Perryville.
