Loyce Livesay

WARE, Ill. -- Loyce J. Livesay, 75, of Ware went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 24, 1928, at Grand Tower, Ill., son of John and Helen Hale Livesay. He married Mary Lou Copeland Jan. 20, 1954, in Yazoo City, Miss.

Mr. Livesay was a member of Ware Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He was a member of the 101st Airborne Division of Fort Campbell, Ky., where he served during the Korean Conflict. He was a radio operator during this time.

He continued to be a ham radio operator which was one of his many hobbies during the course of his life. He was a member of several ham radio clubs, including SARA, MARA, SEMO radio club and also the ARRI.

Mr. Livesay was an avid bicycle rider and was featured in an article in the Southeast Missouri supplement "TBY, The Best Years". He was a member of Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455. For many years he split his time between farming and working as an engineer at Central Illinois Public Service Co. in Grand Tower, where he retired after 35 years of service.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; a daughter, Sherry Wilson of Wolf Lake, Ill.; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Lynda Livesay of Witt, Ill.; a granddaughter Nikki and husband Toby Stoker of Mattoon, Ill.; two grandsons, Jacob and Ian Livesay of Witt; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Evelyn Livesay of Jonesboro, Ill., Edwin and Barbara Livesay of Wolf Lake, Keith and Jean Livesay of Ware; a sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and Ralph Stroehlein of Cobden, Ill.; an uncle, Robert "Bud" and wife Doris Livesay; two aunts, Claire Franklin and Lucille Huston; lifelong friends, Waymon and Barbara Belcher; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Lyndsay Livesay.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Kirby officiating. Burial will be in Jonesboro Cemetery, with military rites by Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455.
