Loy L. Hampton, 85, of Cape Girardeau, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1992, at Southeast Missouri Hospital. He was born May 21, 1906, at Whitewater, son of Martin and Cora Lape Hampton. He and Delores Ford were married July 7, 1930, at Jackson. Hampton moved to Atlanta, Ga., in 1929 where he was an inspector with Greyhound Bus Co. Loy L. Hampton, 85, of Cape Girardeau, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1992, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born May 21, 1906, at Whitewater, son of Martin and Cora Lape Hampton. He and Delores Ford were married July 7, 1930, at Jackson.

Hampton moved to Atlanta, Ga., in 1929 where he was an inspector with Greyhound Bus Co. He returned to Cape Girardeau in the early 1930s and helped establish L.A. Tucker Truck Lines.

He worked with R.B. Potashnick Co. in Arkansas for a time, and then returned to L.A. Tucker in 1946, retiring as equipment superintendent in 1963.

Hampton was then a chief engineer with Missouri Barge Lines five years, and helped organize Cape Girardeau's centralized city garage.

He was a member of First Baptist Church and R.L. Sheets Sunday School Class, Harold Grauel Masonic Lodge, Cape Scottish Rite Club, Cape Rock Chapter Order of Eastern Star, and was a Scottish Rite Mason.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Marcia Bonwell of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Dan Hampton of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Wilma Statler of Little Rock, Ark., Altha Blumenberg of Cape Girardeau; two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and sister.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel. The Rev. John Owen will officiate, with entombment in the mausoleum at Memorial Park.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. today, with a Rose Croix service at 7.
