Loy L. "Fritz" Welker, 81, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born June, 27, 1918, at Cape Girardeau, son of Willis D. and Katie Kistner Welker.

He and Margaret Mitchell were married April 16, 1941, at St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau.

Welker was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He had owned and operated L.L. Welker Plumbing since 1950.

He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He attended Central High School and graduated in 1936. He also attended four years of sanitary engineering school in Harrisburg, Pa.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Marcia Walton of Cape Girardeau; a brother, W.D. Welker of Allenville; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. to 8 today at Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel, with parish prayers at 7 o'clock.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Cathedral. Monsignor Richard Rolwing will officiate, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.
