Surrounded by his loving family, Lowell Walter Mangels, 69, of Friedheim passed away peacefully Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 28, 1949, in Cape Girardeau to Walter and Elda Kasten Mangels.

He grew up on the family farm near Farrar, Missouri, and was baptized Aug. 7, 1949, and confirmed April 7, 1963, at Salem Lutheran Church in Farrar. He was a 1967 graduate of Perryville (Missouri) High School, and a 1969 graduate of Linn Tech in Linn, Missouri.

Lowell served honorably in the U.S. Army from May 19, 1970, to Jan. 21, 1972, and was stationed in Germany for 11 months.

Lowell and Diane Rohde were married April 6, 1974, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim, where Lowell has been a member the past 44 years. He held various offices in the church, including usher and elder, and was a member of the finance board. His joy was LLL Dartball, which he played over 40 years and served as president of the zone for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 133 in Perryville.

Lowell was employed with Davis Farm Supply, Gilster Mary-Lee, Midway Ford, and for nearly 40 years with Sabreliner Corp. in Perryville, retiring July 31, 2013. He then drove a van for SMTS in Perryville, until failing health forced him to quit.

Loving survivors include his wife of 44 years, Diane Mangels of Friedheim; two children, Lori Miget of Perryville and Logan (Jessica) Mangels of Jackson; a granddaughter, Alivia Miget of Perryville; four sisters, Marci (Ken) Preusser of Altenburg, Missouri, Kris Wille of Jackson, Karen Lyon of St. Louis and Patricia (Paul) Callier of Perryville; a sister-in-law, Pat (Bruce) Akers of Farrar; paternal aunt and uncles, Alice (Oliver) Bachmann of Perryville and Homer Versemann of Crystal Lake, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.

Diane's surviving family includes her siblings, Elfrieda (Gene) Petzoldt of Jackson and Cletus (Mary) Rohde of Friedheim.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charles T. Mangels; a brother-in-law, Steve Wille; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Adolph and Gertrude Oehl Rohde; and stepmother-in-law, Bernice Rohde.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, and from 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Roger Steinbrueck officiating. Burial and military honors will follow at the church cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Mangels, David Preusser, Ian Wille, Alvin Kasten, Jim Rohde, Brent Petzoldt, Mike Rohde and Gary Bogenpohl.
