Lova Vines

JONESBORO, Ill. -- Lova Meldetta Vines, 90, passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa. She was formerly of Cape Girardeau.

Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Anna, Ill. Burial will be in Anna Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Friends may also call from 10 a.m. to service time Saturday at the church.

Lova was born Sept. 27, 1917, in Dongola, Ill., to Devoter and Cora Karraker. She married Raymond Vines April 23, 1935. Lova and Raymond were very active in their community, believing strongly in the importance of education.

Raymond served on the school boards of both Jonesboro Elementary School and Anna-Jonesboro Community High School. Lova was active in the PTAs at both schools, was Band Club president for both schools, and provided leadership for various fundraising activities. She was also an active member of VFW Auxiliary, BPW, Rebekah Lodge, Cape Craft Club and Fort D Senior Citizens. She was an avid seamstress and loved to quilt.

Lova was a member of the Jonesboro Baptist Church until she moved to Cape Girardeau and joined Southside Baptist Church. When she moved back to Anna, she joined First Baptist Church. She valued her religious beliefs and enjoyed teaching Sunday school and working with children in Bible school many years.

Lova is survived by a daughter, Margie Oldehoeft (Arch) of Ames; a son, Doyle Vines and family Jennifer, Paul and Shauna of Phoenix; two granddaughters, Gretchen Snyders (Steve) of Lolo, Mont., Kimberly Oldehoeft of Long Beach, Calif.; four great-grandchildren, Isabel, Elias, Ezra and Sylvia Snyders of Lolo; a nephew, David Karraker (Linda) of Anna; two nieces, Lillah Williams of Anna and Barbara Frenzel of Cape Girardeau; numerous nieces and nephews in the Vines family; and other family members.

Lova was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Lloyd Karraker of Indiana, Dennis Karraker of Missouri; a sister, Laura Anna; and a half brother, Lester Coffman.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of Bethany Manor for the kind and loving care they provided for Lova during the last six years of her life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be given to Bethany Life Communities Foundation, 212 Lafayette Ave., Story City, Iowa, 50248, and earmarked for the Chaplaincy Endowment Fund.
