JEFFERSON CITY -- Louise Walker Russell, 90, formerly of Cape Girardeau, died Friday, July 4, 1997, at her home in Jefferson City. She was born May 14, 1907, at St. Louis, daughter of William Ernest and Sherma Eleanor McPheeters Walker. She married Dr. Joseph Pease Russell on Sept. 22, 1929, at Hammond, Ind. JEFFERSON CITY -- Louise Walker Russell, 90, formerly of Cape Girardeau, died Friday, July 4, 1997, at her home in Jefferson City.

She was born May 14, 1907, at St. Louis, daughter of William Ernest and Sherma Eleanor McPheeters Walker.

She married Dr. Joseph Pease Russell on Sept. 22, 1929, at Hammond, Ind. He preceded her in death.

Russell was reared in Cape Girardeau. She attended Southeast Missouri State University and Northwestern University at Evanston, Ill. She graduated in 1929, majoring in speech and drama. She was a member of Gamma Chapter of Alphi Chi Omega Sorority.

Following graduation, she taught speech at Gary, Ind.

She later traveled extensively with her husband, who was a surgeon in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. She has lived in the Jefferson City area since 1959.

She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, the Century Study Club; Chapter BW, PEO; and lifetime member of the Board of Governors and Auxiliary of Memorial Community Hospital. She was also a member of the Jefferson City Country Club.

Survivors are two sons, Joseph P. Russell of Monterey, Calif., and Robert G. Russell of Warrensburg; a daughter, Sherry Russell Cool of Jefferson City; and nine grandchildren.

Service will be conducted Monday at 1 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Harvel Sanders officiating. Private graveside services and interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery.

Freeman Mortuary of Jefferson City is in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends immediately following the funeral service in the Parish Hall of Grace Episcopal Church.
