Louis Henry Whitler, 84, of Gordonville died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at his home.
He was born Sept. 19, 1919, at Wolf Lake, Ill., son of Elbert Louis and Pauline Irene Brase Whitler. He and Minnie Clara Hanschen were married Sept. 19, 1946. They celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary earlier this year.
"Louie" worked at International Shoe Co. from 1948 to 1964. He spent the rest of his career in banking, where he worked at Cape State Bank, Mercantile Bank and Jackson Exchange Bank.
Louie made many friends over the years, everywhere he worked, as an avid bowler, a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Jackson Optimist Club and Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Larry Whitler and wife Janice of Peoria, Ill., Lee Whitler and wife Marsha of Webster Groves, Mo.; three grandchildren, Matthew Whitler of Chicago, Melissa Whitler of Minneapolis, Minn., John Whitler of Bloomington, Ind.; his brother, Leon Whitler of Gordonville; and his sister, Virginia Keller of Gordonville.
Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and Friday after 10:30 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Gordonville.
The funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Gary Hoffstetter officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Christ Lutheran Church or Southeast Hospice.
