SIKESTON, Mo. -- Lorraine M. Thurman, 78, of Sikeston died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, at Clearview Nursing Center in Sikeston.
She was born July 20, 1922, at Bloomfield, Mo., daughter of Edward and Mary Shock Harrington. She and William C. Thurman were married April 3, 1941, at Charleston, Mo. He died March 15, 1977.
She was a graduate of Chicago University at Chicago, where she earned a degree in chemistry. She received an award from the U.S. government for work at Chicago University in the development of the atom.
She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sikeston.
Survivors include a son, Thomas Thurman of Sikeston; four daughters, Charlene Vainauskas of Tyler, Texas, Joyce Shaw of St. Louis, Kathryn Wagener of Sikeston and Barbara Kennedy of Standish, Maine; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston. A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with the Monsignor William Stanton officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
