Lorraine Shumaker

Lorraine V. Hedger Shumaker, 86, of Villa Ridge, Ill., passed away at 8:38 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2010, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

Mrs. Shumaker was born Feb. 29, 1924, in Bertrand, Mo., daughter of the late Frank and Eunice Skaggs Hedger.

Mrs. Shumaker was a member of the Villa Ridge Union Church, and formerly co-owned, with her brother Bob Hedger, Hedger Drug Store in Mounds, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Joseph Shumaker on Nov. 5, 2007; a daughter, Phyllis Kay Shumaker in 1955; a twin sister, Norene Hedger; and two brothers, Robert "Bob" Hedger and Calvin Hedger.

Survivors include a sister, Blanche Curtis of Ullin, Ill.; a brother, Vernon Hedger of Portsmouth, R.I.; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Funeral services for Lorraine Shumaker will begin at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, at the Villa Ridge Union Church, with Pastor Larry Buckles officiating. Interment will follow in the Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge.

Friends may call between 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge and from noon until the funeral hour Monday at the church.
